Boston Globe Chooses ERG as a Top Place To Work
Lexington, Mass, November 9, 2009 - Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG), a Lexington-based, nationally renowned consulting firm, was recognized today by the Boston Globe as one of the Top 100 Places To Work. ERG placed 27th in the list of top 100 employers, and 10th among small employers.
The Globe chose the top companies based on more than 70,000 completed employee surveys covering such topics as career development opportunities, working conditions, and pay and benefits.
Employees are extremely satisfied working at ERG thanks to the strong emphasis placed on high-quality work and respect for employees and clients. “We have strived since our founding to create an atmosphere of respect, where everyone at all levels of our organization is treated with kindness and compassion,” explained David Meyers, ERG’s president. “I’m convinced with each passing year that our commitment to this goal is what makes our success as a company possible. We look for people who embrace our cooperative philosophy, and in this atmosphere they can develop, grow, and diversify their skills, and work together successfully on project teams to support our clients. One result of this philosophy is that we have very low turnover of staff or clients.”
Since the company’s founding, Meyers, a Lexington resident, has infused these core values to build a company with a strong reputation for delivering highly professional products on time and on budget. As a result, ERG has grown in size and revenues for 26 straight years.
ERG offers a very competitive compensation and benefits package with commuting benefits and flexible work opportunities. Employees are encouraged to tailor their work schedules to achieve a work-life balance that fits the demands of modern life for families and individuals with a range of backgrounds.
ERG also strives to improve the local and global community through a variety of charitable programs and environmental partnerships. For example, ERG purchases enough renewable energy to offset 100 percent of its corporate energy use. Employees’ transit passes are also subsidized, and its Lexington office offers bike stands, a fitness facility, and showers to encourage bikers and mid-day exercise, including the company’s popular lunchtime street hockey game.
Charles Goodhue, a 26-year-old native of Wayland, Mass., with degrees from Brandeis and Harvard, had several job offers when he started at ERG two years ago. “This wasn’t the highest paying position I could get, but it was definitely the right fit for me,” Goodhue explains. “I knew that here, I could contribute to a range of projects, learn new skills, and make a meaningful contribution to society through my work. After two years, I still love it here.”
ERG is headquartered in Lexington, Mass., and has grown from the 10 founders in 1984 to more than 350 employees nationwide, with 11 additional offices across the country. ERG is a multidisciplinary consulting firm offering a broad range of professional services in the fields of environmental science and engineering, communications, economic research and analysis, occupational health and safety, facility planning and engineering, energy, and information technology. The company helps clients preserve the environment, improve worker protection, ensure the safety of food and drugs, plan sustainable facilities, and achieve other positive outcomes.
