A stressor is any physical, chemical, or biological agent that can induce changes in organisms. This course focuses on stressors that are caused by human activity. Some examples include:

  • Physical stressors (e.g., construction, dams, noise, large fishing nets).
  • Chemical stressors (e.g., pesticides, industrial effluents, acid deposition).
  • Biological stressors (e.g., introduced species, pathogens).
