A tiered assessment is a risk assessment that:
- Is set up in a number of sequential steps of increased complexity
and effort.
- Specifies decision criteria for each step.
- Involves evaluating whether or not the next step of assessment
should be undertaken based on these criteria.
Tiered assessments involve carefully planned iteration. But the
iteration isn't always planned at the start of the assessment. It
can be triggered by new information or a need to re-evaluate something
which could happen at any point in the risk assessment.
