Scale of Assessment and Information Needs

As the complexity and spatial scale of a risk assessment increase, so do information needs.

For example, determining risks to a population of burrowing mammals inhabiting a small area containing lead-contaminated soil would require just a little sampling and toxicological information.photo of burrowing mammal

But predicting risks from multiple chemical, physical, and biological stressors requires an effort to understand their interactions. Risk assessments for a region or watershed, where multiple stressors are the rule, require extensive consideration.
