As the complexity and spatial scale of a risk assessment increase,
so do information needs.
For example, determining risks to a population of burrowing mammals
inhabiting a small area containing lead-contaminated soil would
require just a little sampling and toxicological information.
But predicting risks from multiple chemical, physical, and biological
stressors requires an effort to understand their interactions. Risk
assessments for a region or watershed, where multiple stressors
