reflection Information Gathering

Imagine that you are a risk assessor entering the information-gathering stage of an assessment. First, choose an assessment topic. Then, for a few minutes, think of all the questions you would like to ask about your topic. Note them on a paper or in a word-processing program.

For example, for the ecosystem potentially at risk, you would ask: What are the geographic boundaries? How do they relate to functional characteristics of the ecosystem?

Reminder! The four subjects of necessary information are:

  • Source and stressor characteristics.
  • Exposure characteristics.
  • Ecosystems potentially at risk.
  • Ecological effects.
