Consider the three types of measure and read what that measure does.

Measures of effects

...quantify change in an attribute of an assessment endpoint (or its surrogate) in response to a stressor.
Measures of exposure ...quantify stressor existence and movement in the environment, and the stressor's contact with the assessment endpoint.
Measures of ecosystem and receptor characteristics ...describe characteristics that influence the behavior and location of entities selected as assessment endpoints, describe life-history characteristic of those entities, or describes the distribution of a stressor.
