Describing Stressor Distribution (or Distribution of Disturbed Environment)

Let's move on to the second key component of exposure characterization: describing the spatial and temporal distribution of stressors in the environment.

key pointFor physical stressors that directly change or eliminate portions of the environment, the assessor describes the temporal and spatial distribution of the disturbed environment itself.

road closed photoStressor distribution is described by evaluating two factors:

  • The transport pathways by which the stressor reaches the receptor.
  • The formation, then distribution, of secondary stressors.

Reminder! Secondary stressors are those that arise as a result of a primary stressor's effects.

We'll look at each of these factors in turn.
