Determining the Significance of Adverse Effects

After you estimate the changes to assessment endpoints and evaluate lines of evidence, the next step is to determine whether the changes are adverse and evaluate the degree of adversity. Risk assessors often rely on their professional judgment.

There are three criteria for evaluating adverse changes in assessment endpoints:

  • Nature and intensity of effects.
  • Spatial and temporal scale.
  • Potential for recovery.
