It's the flow chart of the overall risk assessment process (this
phase, communicating results, and the risk management phase that
follows it are highlighted). After discussing the results, risk
managers may decide that follow-on activities are required before
they can make risk management decisions or communicate results publicly.
Even at this point, risk assessment remains an iterative process.
Depending on the importance of the assessment, confidence in its
results, and available resources, it may be a good idea to conduct
another iteration (perhaps starting with Risk Characterization or
Analysis) to support a final management decision. This may be as
simple as collecting additional toxicological data or adding another
model or analytical method or it could mean going back to
Problem Formulation. It should seldom be necessary to revisit problem
formulation.
