Help for Using the EcoRisk Training Area

This training program is made up of five modules, listed in the left-hand navigation bar. The modules are made of of lessons, individual screens presented in related topics. The course is a step-by-step explanation of ecological risk assessment. There is also a short introduction to ecological risk assessment. Below are listed the topics addressed on this help page.

How do I navigate...

To go through the training in order, use the Back and Next buttons at the bottom of each screen.

You'll notice green and white clickable icons to activities on most of the pages. These icons are all linked to text and audio explanations, activities, and graphics that help you understand ecological risk assessment more fully. Make sure to take advantage by clicking on all the icons as you go through the page!

Audio explanations pop up in new windows. Make sure to close the window after you're through with it, or you might not be able to find it the next time you click an audio button.

The site map may be another useful tool for getting a sense of where you are and where you want to go. It is an outline of all the screens, to give you a sense of the structure of this training. Each screen title is linked to that screen, so the site map is also a handy way to navigate the site. You can always get to the site map by clicking on the link at the bottom of the yellow content box. On every page, it is to the right of the options listed under the "back/top/next" page-by-page navigation.

Speaking of page-by-page navigation -- you guessed it! To move through the site chronologically, the back and next links at the bottom of each page bring you through each sequence in a logical fashion. When you click an icon, you will be able to return to the page you clicked it from by clicking the text Back link at the bottom of the page. Then you can use the Next link to move to the next screen in the training. These links are assigned to bring you to certain pages, so they work a bit differently than your Back and Forward buttons in the browser toolbar. Your browser brings you to screens in the order in which you've viewed them, not necessarily in the order of the course.

You can always return to this page by clicking the Help link that's between Glossary and Site map in the second row of text navigation links below. If you don't find the answer to your question here, please use the Contact Us link at the very bottom left-hand corner of the page. We want to hear about your experience of the site, and look forward to any questions or suggestions you may have for us!

Most text links are references to other parts of the course. They navigate out of sequence and clicking on them is always purely optional. Links off the course site are clearly indicated and the URL is provided.

...for a quick review?

In addition to the short introduction to ecological risk assessment, all wrap-up lessons contain the collected graphical and text-format process flows for that module. And, if the site map's table of contents isn't enough, use the text links at the beginning of each module or lesson to get to the main ideas in that unit.

Where do I get...

Need Flash player? Download at http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download.

Need Adobe Acrobat Reader? Download at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.

I need 508 accessibility features...

This site provides a text explanation of any graphic flow chart or illustration, usually through a "text-only alternative" link just above the image. The text only alternative links back to the page you reached it from.

In addition, an HTML text version is provided for any dynamic activity. You'll notice that in addition to the clickable icons you use to access activities and further explanations, there is a link provided to a "text-only version" if the page the icon leads to has additional features. Any content provided in the additional features is described in the text-only version. Use a screen reader, skip the mouse if you like: all learners should be able to easily access all of the information on this ecological risk assessment training site.

What if I still have questions?
