ERG’s Richard Billings Named Chair of Key Transportation Research Board Committee

ERG is pleased to announce that Richard Billings, an ERG senior scientist, has been selected as chair of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Marine Environment Committee (MEC). The TRB is one of seven program units of the National Academy of Sciences, which provides independent, objective analysis and advice to inform public policy decisions. The MEC considers the environmental performance of maritime transportation systems including ports, vessels, coastal regions, and waterways. During Mr. Billings’ tenure as chair, the group will promote research in decarbonizing marine freight, using low-cost monitors in nearby environmental justice communities, fumigating cargo, applying ballast-free technology to transport invasive species, and mitigating hazards associated with shipbreaking.
