Ayesha Berlind

Vice President/Senior Economist

A core aspect of my work is leveraging a diverse array of data collection and analytical techniques to craft innovative solutions tailored to our clients’ data and research needs. This often involves delving into new subject areas. I greatly enjoy this process as it feeds my natural curiosity and is very satisfying to deliver products that help improve public health.

Ayesha, an ERG senior economist and project manager, has worked at the intersection of public health and economics for more than 25 years, supporting a wide range of projects for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and state agencies during that time. Her work includes conducting regulatory impact analyses, benefit-cost analyses, developing industry profiles, leading surveys and expert elicitations, evaluating government programs, and developing market projections.

Ayesha is a seasoned data collection expert with extensive experience conducting mail, phone, and online surveys of all sizes; expert elicitations; and semi-structured interviews to fill critical data gaps and support decision-making. Her survey expertise spans decades and includes surveys of businesses, households, individuals, and experts. For example, for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, she recently conducted an online panel survey on the use of Massachusetts open space and recreational opportunities by residents. For FDA, she worked on a large-scale multimode survey of drug manufacturers to collect data on the prevalence of good manufacturing practices at drug facilities.

Ayesha excels at designing and implementing comprehensive survey methodologies that adhere to AAPOR guidelines and at obtaining Office of Management and Budget clearance for federal data collections. She has also conducted dozens of expert elicitations covering a wide range of topics in the food safety, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and cosmetics industries. Ayesha is also an expert interviewer and has gathered both quantitative and qualitative data to support program evaluations, regulatory impact analyses, and other policy analyses. Through the years, she has developed expertise in a broad range of industry regulatory requirements, manufacturing practices, and public health topics, including food safety and recalls, pharmaceuticals (including antibiotics, biologics and biosimilars), cosmetics, dietary supplements, medical gas, clinical trials, medical devices, medication administration programs, and tobacco and vaping products. She continues to apply this subject knowledge to generate effective solutions to client research questions where standard data are not readily available.

Ayesha holds a B.S. in economics and a B.S. in biology from George Mason University and an M.S. in agricultural and resource economics from the University of Maryland. In her free time, she loves to volunteer at a local dog rescue, hike, paddleboard, and travel, preferably with her family, which includes two goofy labs.
