Senior Engineer

I am incredibly grateful to work at ERG supporting projects that are important to me and that make a difference in our communities. My work is diverse and intellectually stimulating, the clients are great, and the expert teams ERG provides are unmatched. We work together to achieve ambitious goals, tackle complex projects, and solve a wide range of challenges.

A senior engineer with over 14 years of experience, Brent Ruminski manages mobile source enforcement projects for both federal and state agencies and leads ERG’s mobile source enforcement practice. His clients include the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Justice, California Air Resources Board, and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Brent has extensive experience analyzing vehicle and engine emissions and on-board diagnostic data, as well as a deep understanding of powertrain and emission control systems and operation. Over the past nine years, he has supported the investigation, case development, and settlement of more than 125 important vehicle and engine enforcement cases, including civil and criminal law enforcement investigations involving aftermarket vehicles and engine defeat devices, as well as vehicle and engine manufacturers. Through this experience, Brent has become a nationally recognized expert in engine emissions controls, especially for cases involving automotive emission control defeat devices. He has served as a testifying expert for several high-profile cases and has trained hundreds of federal and state employees on technical aspects of vehicle and engine enforcement.

Brent’s experience also includes development of acquisition and processing strategies for on-board diagnostic data from controller area networks on motor vehicles and engines. He also leads ERG program areas in fuels enforcement that involve the Renewable Fuel Standard, volatility, sulfur, benzene, and other fuel quality parameters of conventional fuel, as well as hydrofluorocarbon phasedown enforcement under the American Innovation and Manufacturing Act, for which ERG has helped EPA stand up a new enforcement program from scratch. Brent holds a B.S. in energy engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.
