Rich Baldauf
Senior Environmental Engineer
I believe that advancing public health and environmental sustainability requires reducing pollution emissions and exposures to these emissions—through collaborative solutions that strengthen communities and the ecosystems we all depend on.
With over 25 years of environmental engineering and science experience, Rich brings a strong commitment to protecting public health and advancing environmental sustainability. His work focuses on mitigating air quality and climate impacts from transportation and industrial sources through innovative, science-based approaches. He specializes in characterizing and reducing emissions at the source and designing urban green and built infrastructure to enhance community resilience, support sustainable urban development, and address equity concerns. Rich has also integrated sustainable transportation, nature-based-solutions, and cumulative impact analyses to provide innovative and comprehensive strategies that address multiple environmental impacts and optimize benefits across media and spatial scales. At ERG, he collaborates with interested parties and clients to design and implement practical, forward-looking strategies that reduce air pollution and other community stressors while promoting healthier, more livable environments.
Rich earned a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Kansas, an M.S. in environmental science and engineering from the University of North Carolina, and a B.S. in civil and environmental engineering from Virginia Tech. He has served on numerous professional committees, including National Academy of Sciences committees, and has supported Texas A&M University, North Carolina State University, and Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) as an adjunct professor.
