Sean Layton

Chemical Engineer

I deeply appreciate that I have been able to combine my love of the outdoors, desire to help others, and engineering background into a career dedicated to protecting the environment and human health from toxic chemicals. Collaborating with similarly passionate colleagues and clients has only added to the joy of my work.

Sean Layton (he/him/his) is a chemical engineer with over eight years of experience completing chemical risk evaluations and analyzing risk management practices for chemicals used in a variety of industrial and commercial sectors. He is a technical expert and project manager for ERG’s support of chemical risk evaluations for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s programs under the Toxic Substances Control Act. Sean’s expertise lies in identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing information and data used to analyze industrial processes for sources of environmental releases and occupational exposures, including analysis of engineering controls for mitigating releases to the environment and occupational exposures. He is highly proficient at developing technical approaches that utilize primary and secondary data sources, including environmental release and occupational exposure models that are used for both screening-level and detailed chemical risk evaluations.

Sean has a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from Drexel University. His passion for the environment doesn’t end when he clocks out as he prefers to spend his free time outdoors hiking, backpacking, or simply reading a book in the park.
