Commission for Environmental Cooperation Publishes ERG Report on Flame Retardants

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation recently published an ERG-prepared report that evaluates the North American supply chain of chemicals used as flame retardants. The results are already being used to conduct high-profile risk assessments to evaluate the potential human health and environmental effects associated with flame retardant use. In the study, ERG evaluated 46 flame retardants of interest and presented detailed supply chain information for 16 of these. The report includes information on drivers of flame retardant use, their prevalence in the market place, and regulations that impact their use in manufacturing. ERG's team analyzed the supply chain and identified products expected to contain the chemicals of interest. We also developed a repository of all known, publicly available market information about the targeted chemicals, including production volume, industrial processing, and use.
