ERG publishes infectious disease Wastewater Surveillance Toolkit
Through a recent project for the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), ERG developed a new infectious disease Wastewater Surveillance Toolkit for state, local, and territorial public health agencies. The toolkit provides practical guidance for analyzing and interpreting wastewater data for infectious disease surveillance, integrating that data with other public health surveillance systems, and translating wastewater signals into public health action. It also includes guidance on governance and ethics, pathogen-specific considerations, and real-world case studies.
ERG and CSTE, a nonprofit that works to advance public health policy and increase epidemiologic capacity, launched the completed toolkit with a live webinar attended by hundreds of public health professionals across the country.
“We’re excited to have partnered with CSTE on this effort and hope to continue working together in the future,” said senior epidemiologist Clifton Dassuncao, who led the project. “Wastewater surveillance is an important and growing area of public health, and we’re proud that this toolkit will help local and state health agencies translate wastewater data into practical public health decisions.”
