ERG Supports EPA and DOJ Settlement with Automotive Parts Manufacturer

With ERG’s support, EPA and the U.S. Department of Justice recently reached a $6.25 million settlement with automotive parts manufacturer Derive Systems over its alleged violations of the Clean Air Act. The company manufactured and sold approximately 363,000 aftermarket products that modified the original vehicle manufacturers’ software, thus allowing car and truck owners to disable their emissions control equipment and on-board diagnostic systems, and potentially resulting in higher emissions. To support the settlement, ERG performed chassis dynamometer testing to measure how much the modifications increased emissions in a controlled environment. We also provided other technical engineering and expert consulting support.
