Stacy Smedley

Vice President

Growing up on my grandfather’s land in rural Oregon surrounded by forests, streams, and mountains, I developed a deep love for the natural world. That early connection sparked a lifelong commitment to creating positive impact by finding ways to make the things we need without harming the environment I have learned to cherish.

Stacy Smedley, an ERG vice president, leads ERG’s Product Impact Group in developing tools, data systems, and disclosure methods that enable industries, governments, and individuals to understand and reduce the environmental impacts of products they make and buy. With over 20 years of experience at the intersection of sustainability and materials, Stacy is recognized for her efforts to bring embodied carbon into the spotlight and make transparency in product impacts accessible and actionable.

Prior to joining ERG, Stacy was the co-founder and executive director of Building Transparency, the nonprofit behind the embodied carbon in construction calculator (EC3) tool and its open-access database of digitized environmental product declarations. Her vision, leadership, and innovation in this area have been instrumental in driving the adoption of sustainable design and construction practices within the building industry. Stacy has received multiple industry awards and serves on several government and international advisory groups, based on her entrepreneurship and expertise in sustainable construction practices, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, and product environmental impacts.

Stacy holds a B.A. in architecture from the University of Washington. Outside of work, she enjoys writing and playing music with her band and spending time outdoors with her husband, son, and their two dogs (a Pug and a Great Dane).
