Arizona Clean Water and Wastewater Training Support
Project Brief
The Challenge
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (AZDEQ) contracted with ERG to develop and deliver training on water quality permitting, compliance, inspections, and sampling activities to strengthen AZDEQ staff knowledge and skills and build in-house capacity for these functions to protect and enhance public health and the environment.
ERG's Solution
Under a multi-year training contract, ERG technical experts prepare and deliver a wide variety of training programs for AZDEQ staff on topics including construction stormwater general permit inspections; industrial (multi-sector general permit) stormwater general permit inspections; pretreatment inspections and audits; compliance evaluation inspections; water quality sampling; sewer modeling; underground injection control; mixing zones; hydrologic modeling; total maximum daily load; metal translator permitting; biosolids; and technical document writing. For each assignment, we develop the training program using the most cost-effective approach to achieve AZDEQ’s training goals. For example, we utilize existing ERG off-the-shelf training programs when possible; develop customized training that incorporates Arizona-specific elements when appropriate; and deliver the training in one or more modalities best suited to the topic and audience needs, including in-person classroom training, in-the-field training, live virtual training, and on-demand web-based training. As needed, we also support AZDEQ in managing training logistics, and we develop, deliver, and analyze the results of trainee feedback surveys.
