Project Brief

The Challenge

Recognizing the urgent need for highly vulnerable Caribbean countries to scale up investments in community risk and resilience measures and provide tools for resource managers and practitioners to incorporate resilience into their planning and development models, a regional pilot program reached out to ERG to develop an information management solution.

ERG's Solution

ERG led development of the Regional Coastal Integrated Information Management System (RCIIMS), an online platform of coastal and marine metadata that supports adaptation and mitigation planning in the Caribbean region. It is currently being piloted in six countries: Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The RCIIMS provides centralized public access to metadata related to changing weather conditions, informs research and analysis, promotes education and awareness, and fosters development of a community of data producers and users. ERG chose CKAN to serve as the RCIIMS data portal platform because it is open-source and offers many features for open data API; geospatial data and metadata storage; and search and discovery visualization with tables, graphs, and maps.
