Caribbean Regional Coastal Integrated Information Management System

Critical climate risk information and data for the Caribbean region are decentralized, not readily accessible, and often outdated. Recognizing the urgent need for highly vulnerable Caribbean countries to scale up investments in climate risk and resilience measures and provide tools for resource managers and practitioners to incorporate resilience into their planning and development models, the regional Pilot Program for Climate Resilience reached out to ERG to develop an information management solution.

ERG led development of the Regional Coastal Integrated Information Management System (RCIIMS), an online platform of coastal and marine metadata that supports climate and adaptation planning in the Caribbean region. It is currently being piloted in the six countries (Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines) involved in the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience. The RCIIMS provides centralized public access to climate-related metadata, informs research and analysis, promotes education and awareness, and fosters development of a community of data producers and users. ERG chose CKAN to serve as the RCIIMS data portal platform because it is open-source and offers many features for open data API; geospatial data and metadata storage; and search and discovery visualization with tables, graphs, and maps.
