Design Consultation for Central Utilities Plant Upgrades at Georgetown University

Georgetown Plant

Project Brief

Georgetown University selected ERG as a trusted third party for design and consultation of the Central Utility Plant on their Hilltop Campus. The scope of the projects included modernizing the existing boilers in the Central Utilities Plant and adding one new boiler to increase overall system capacity, improve performance, and reduce energy consumption. Experts from ERG reviewed the projects for conformance with operational requirements; applicable local, state, and federal codes and regulations; and prior recommendations (provided by ERG or other stakeholders). ERG’s experts reviewed design submittals and provided written comments and recommendations to ensure compliance, improve equipment durability, minimize construction costs, and facilitate efficient operations and maintenance of the modified Central Plant. During plant start-up and commissioning, ERG provided additional third-party expertise to inspect equipment, review operations data to evaluate integration of new and existing equipment, and provide supplemental recommendations to optimize plant performance. As a result of the successful upgrades to the Central Plant, community ambient air concentrations for identified emissions are well below EPA air quality standards and the project has improved air quality within the surrounding community.
