ERG Collaboration on Brake Emissions Garners National Recognition

Model of Link's brake dynamometer for comparing particulate matter emissions

ERG and its subcontractor, Link Engineering, collaborated on a brake emissions-related paper that was selected as one of the top three papers for live presentation at the Society of Automotive Engineers’ (SAE) Brake Colloquium Digital Summit in late 2020. ERG was also invited to present on the subject at the Health Effects Institute’s Non-Tailpipe Emissions Workshop. The project, co-sponsored by the California Air Resources Board and EPA, involved creating a new test cycle to measure and compare particulate matter emissions from vehicle braking based on distance traveled. ERG and Link Engineering tested various vehicle brake assemblies on Link’s brake dynamometer (shown above), and the findings will help inform future methods of emissions reductions.
