ERG’s Dr. Chi Ho Sham served on the Technical Review Board and contributed to the third edition of the American Water Works Association’s Water Resources Planning manual of practice (M50). The manual helps water resources planners accommodate a growing demand for water, while complying with the myriad regulations that govern the development and use of new water supplies. It provides guidance on developing a long-term water resource management plan that responds to technical issues, such as those involving science and engineering, and institutional issues, such as those involving water rights and governance. This edition of the manual also includes information on involving stakeholders throughout the planning process and evaluating alternative strategies to meet water demands, such as using reclaimed water, desalination, and trading.
