ERG-Led Initiative is New Home of Widely-Used USEEIO Dataset
In August, ERG joined Stanford Sustainable Solutions Lab and Watershed in founding the Cornerstone Sustainability Data Initiative to provide high-quality, open-access sustainability data for users around the globe. Cornerstone is the new home of the U.S. Environmentally-Extended Input-Output (USEEIO) model, which was originally developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The spend-based model is one of the world's most widely used datasets for Scope 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions accounting, providing complete supply chain emission factors for over 1,000 U.S. commodities.
The Cornerstone team is working to add new data products, including for environmental indicators beyond GHG emissions, like water use and air pollution, that will help users assess a variety of environmental impacts.
“Working alongside the talented teams at Stanford and Watershed, I’m confident that Cornerstone will be able to continue to provide access to the data and tools necessary to help organizations assess and meet their environmental targets,” said Ben Young, ERG Vice President and Senior Life Cycle Analyst.
In October, Cornerstone published its first set of new data products, including the latest Supply Chain GHG Emission Factors.
