ERG’s Clean Transportation Group Helps Assess Excess Emissions in Cummins Settlement

Multiple vehicles driving on a busy highway.

ERG's Clean Transportation group recently conducted a detailed study to support the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board, and California Attorney General's office settling with Cummins, Inc., over their alleged Clean Air Act violations related to emissions in excess to their certification values. The settlement includes a nationwide recall of over 600,000 customer Ram pickup trucks to fix the underlying condition, extended warranty periods for customers, funding for nitrogen oxide emission mitigation projects, and measures to prevent future violations through software devices installed to bypass emission tests and certification requirements. ERG estimated the total emissions produced over the subject vehicles’ lifetimes to assess the excess emissions associated with the alleged violations. The settlement will protect public health by enforcing laws that safeguard the American people from harmful air pollutants. See this press release to read more about the Justice Department’s settlement.
