Protecting Public Health and the Environment through EPA Regulatory Support
New EPA proposed pretreatment standards will prohibit wastewater discharges from unconventional oil and gas extraction facilities, which typically require hydraulic fracturing, to be sent to municipal treatment plants. ERG engineers have supported the development of these standards since 2011 through extensive research and wastewater characterization studies. The proposed rule will provide regulatory certainty and help protect public health, the environment, and the operational integrity of municipal wastewater treatment plants.
