ERG Helps EPA Spread Awareness about Lead in Environmental Justice Communities

In June 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched a nationwide series of Community Lead Awareness sessions to provide communities with educational resources to reduce lead exposure. ERG is supporting this important effort by reaching out to communities across the country, scheduling sessions, creating promotional materials such as a community toolkit and flyers, and facilitating in-person Understanding Lead and Train-the-Trainer sessions in both English and Spanish. Over the course of the year, EPA and ERG seek to reach as many environmental justice communities as possible to help them better understand the dangers of lead and ways to reduce and prevent lead exposures. Valerie Overton, an ERG vice president, serves as one of the session facilitators. KXII, a news station in Oklahoma, recently interviewed Valerie after she presented these sessions to the Choctaw Nation.
