ERG Helps Measure Marine Economy Contributions

ERG helped the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its partner, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, develop a Marine Economy Account that provides time series data on the contribution of ocean-dependent economic activity to U.S. gross domestic product. The Bureau collects and presents economic data by NAICS code, but these industries do not make it easy to measure which industries are related to and contribute to the ocean economy. To obtain these data, ERG assessed more than one thousand industries. ERG also worked with stakeholders to vet and improve the accuracy and presentation of the data in the Marine Economy Account.
