ERG Supports Settlement Over Clean Air Act Violations

With ERG’s support, EPA and the U.S. Department of Justice recently reached a settlement with Newport Biodiesel, Inc., over the company’s alleged violations of several Clean Air Act requirements related to hazardous air pollutants and safety. ERG helped uncover the violations by participating in a joint renewable fuel standard/Clean Air Act inspection with the Mobile Source Enforcement Branch and Region 1. ERG also provided technical support for case development activities. As part of the settlement, Newport’s manufacturing plant installed new air pollution controls to reduce its methanol emissions, as well as new safety equipment to prevent chemical accidents.
