Diana Pietri Selected for California Marine Protected Area Social Science Working Group

Diana Pietri, a senior social scientist on ERG’s Blue Earth Team, was recently invited to join the California Marine Protected Area (MPA) Social Science Working Group. The group is advising on how to improve social science research and monitoring of human activities and governance in and around MPAs—spaces intended to protect marine life from human activities. California is home to the world’s largest network of geographically connected MPAs, and the working group’s recommendations will help create a better system for monitoring these MPAs and accounting for human activities and impacts.
“The working group is a wonderful opportunity to help California better understand and monitor the human dimensions of its MPA network, which are critical to its success,” said Pietri.
Pietri—an expert in coastal and marine governance and management—has robust experience working with foundations, government agencies, nonprofits, community organizations, and academic institutions to strengthen resilience to environmental threats.
