Coastal and Marine Resources

ERG’s coastal and marine resources group specializes in helping our clients protect, conserve, manage, and restore ecosystems, communities, ports, infrastructure, economies, recreation, and jobs. For more than 20 years, our experts have completed over 100 coastal and marine projects for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other federal, state, and local agencies; foundations; and non-profit organizations. During that time, they have also worked internationally with public and private clients to promote effective conservation and management of coastal and marine resources and assets around the world. Our interdisciplinary team—including planners, resilience specialists, natural and social scientists, economic and policy analysts, geospatial analysts, and communication experts—applies diverse targeted approaches to develop, advance, and support effective strategies, policies, and tools. Our work includes designing programs, assessing their effectiveness, and recommending policies and strategies to better balance competing demands on coastal and marine resources and assets. Our solutions encourage local, sustainable, and community-based resource management and promote best practices and collaboration among communities, resource managers, and decision-makers. Working closely with our clients, we ensure that our products are scientifically defensible, integrate partner input, resonate with audiences, and contain actionable recommendations for decision-makers and implementers.

Charles Goodhue

As an economist, I have come to appreciate that the qualitative context—including co-benefits, benefits distribution, environmental and health impacts, and social and political obstacles—can be as essential to decision-making as the numerical outputs. I enjoy working holistically with my government and community clients to determine how best to meet their needs and communicate the results.

I love working in the coastal zone, where the incredible diversity of ecosystems, communities, and activities presents unique challenges. For me, this complexity is a constant source of learning. Our team and clients bring together a wealth of knowledge and expertise, making it truly inspiring to work collectively toward resilience solutions.

Jennifer Lam

The most rewarding part of my work is being able to help our clients and communities from behind the scenes, reflect on their impact, and find ways to become more effective and accessible in improving community conditions for all.

Lindy Lowe

My favorite problems are the difficult ones—those sticky, multi-jurisdictional, multi-sector problems that require us to find new partners, develop new frameworks for working together, and be brave, humble, and kind. I love building frameworks that enable the person with the least amount of power and the person with the most amount of power to share their perspectives and contribute to solutions. Whatever the issue, my goals are to develop transparent, equitable, and effective solutions and to have fun along the way!

Lou Nadeau

Agencies tend to manage what can be readily measured, but with a large toolbox of analytical and data collection techniques and some creativity, so much more is possible! I leverage a background in economic and statistics with the use of survey data collection approaches to generate valid and reliable data to enhance decision-making. Each project I work on, I strive to combine rigorous analysis with effective communication.

Diana Pietri

Designing equitable solutions for sustainable environmental conservation and management efforts is a constantly challenging, rewarding endeavor. I love collaborating closely with our clients to develop strategies that promote environmental and community resilience—including evaluating environmental program effectiveness and identifying innovative best practices for coastal and ocean planning.

My work and ethos are driven by innovation, whether advancing coastal resilience, supporting multi-level partnerships across the Pacific, or translating complex environmental issues into clear, actionable strategies. I’m most energized by tough, cross-cutting challenges that require creativity, collaboration, and deep understanding. To me, success means thoughtfully bringing diverse voices to the table when it truly matters, creating solutions that genuinely support the communities we serve.
