Helping Communities Assess Green Infrastructure to Reduce Flooding

ERG helped NOAA produce a new guide that will help communities assess green infrastructure to reduce flooding in their areas. A Guide to Assessing Green Infrastructure Costs and Benefits for Flood Reduction provides a step-by-step, highly adaptable, watershed-based approach to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of green infrastructure options. To develop these steps, ERG conducted case studies in the Great Lakes region. We then ensured the methodology was transferable by applying the same methodology to a different type of watershed in Hawaii. The guide is an important resource for communities nationwide, offering key considerations, recommended expertise, case study examples, implementation tips, and lessons learned.
